Yoga is a practice that has been around for thousands of years. It has become popular in America in the last few decades due to the physical and mental benefits. Why practice yoga? There are a lot of reasons. When I Googled “what are the benefits of yoga” there were literally 53,000 results. Wow. Below are just a few of the benefits I found in a few of the articles:
Increased muscle strength and toning
Boosts sexual performance
Fights food cravings
Why should you watch the Jasmine Petals Yoga videos? Well, I’m fun and educational. My students and I laugh in the videos. My videos are not intimidating. No one in my videos, including myself, does the poses perfectly.
I love the energy that flows when I teach a yoga class. I am constantly amazed that people are surprised I still do all these things “at my age.” I had someone lecture me recently about not overdoing it by teaching too many classes in one week. I have had to make adjustments as my body ages, but I feel strongly that keeping my body moving and flexible are two of the things I can do to maintain a level of fitness and health for the rest of my life.
I always tell my daughters that I can’t make any promises what I will be like as I go into my declining years, but I will stay as active both physically and socially as I can to try and ward off some of the preventable symptoms of aging. I have watched my parents pay the price of deciding to not move their bodies if they can get a machine or another person to do the work for them. I plan on staying as active as I can as I age to try to avoid some of the problems I’ve seen in the generation that came before mine.
